The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced the official approval of the use of the 6 GHz spectrum band (5925–6425 MHz) for Wi-Fi 7 and all future Wi-Fi standards. This decisive action makes Pakistan one of the early adopters of this next-generation technology in the Asia-Pacific region, emphasizing its commitment to digital leadership.

The core benefit of Wi-Fi 7 is its ability to deliver ultra-high data rates with exceptionally low latency and enhanced reliability. In opening up the wide 6 GHz frequency band, the PTA is effectively creating a new congestion-free highway for data traffic. This not only eases pressure on older Wi-Fi bands but also provides the robust capacity needed for the most bandwidth-hungry modern applications.

This regulatory move is a crucial step in Pakistan's broader digital transformation strategy. Improved network performance will directly benefit households, enterprises, and public institutions, enabling more efficient digital services and fostering innovation across key sectors. The PTA emphasises that this initiative will also contribute to reducing broadband provision costs, strengthen network resilience and help reduce the digital divide, accelerating the development of a secure and inclusive digital economy.
